Falling Water: a house levitated over a waterfall. Frank Lloyd Wright’s masterpiece, and often called one of the best examples of American architecture. We had both wanted to see Falling Water for many years, so we made our way there after leaving New Jersey. While its stunning location is obviously what initially seduces the imagination, I fell in love with the house because of the intimate and beautifully crafted details. The house was designed almost like a ship. The sleeping quarters are small but comfortable with lots of storage hidden away. The patios overhanging the waterfall are like fore and aft decks with commanding views of the expansive sky. Many pieces of furniture in the house are multifunctional – again to incorporate more storage. If and when I ever own a house, I would love to have a space with such a precisely conceived interior.
